Creston News Advertiser, Creston, Iowa, Thursday, February 7, 1946, Page 1, Col. 6: Burton R. Jones' Sister Dies in Des Moines. Miss Ethel Jones of Des Moines, sister of Burton R. Jones, superintendent of Creston schools, died yesterday afternoon at 5:30 at her home following a serious illness of more than two months.
Miss Jones was a professor of history in Drake university, where she has been teaching for the past 15 years. She has been a frequent visitor in Creston, and has spoken here a number of times before various organizations. She proved one of the most popular lecturers to come before the Creston Woman's club, when she spoke here a couple of years ago, discussing Russia, a subject with which she was particularly conversant and in which she was deeply interested. One of her special classes at the university was in Russian history.
Funeral arrangements have not been completed, but will be held this weekend in Des Moines. Mr. Jones was with his sister at the time of her death. Mrs. Jones and daughter, Frances will join him in Des Moines tomorrow. Their elder daughter Barbara is in Des Moines attending college at Drake.
