William "Bill" Bruner

"William (Bill) Bruner was born in Shoals, Indiana on July 3, 1929, the son of Charles and Reina Bruner. William graduated from Shoals High School. He married Melba Farrow on July 5, 1952. He was an air traffic controller in the U.S. Air Force in the early to mid 1950's. William retired as a millwright from General Motors SPO with 34 years of service in 1984. He is survived by his wife, Melba Bruner of Gaines,MI; daughter, Colleen Sims (Thomas) of Linden, MI; brother, Robert Charles Bruner of Shoals, IN; sister, Wahneta Felton of Loogootee, IN; granddaughter, Aimee Boillat (Erik) of MI; grandson, Christopher Sims and fiance Erin Coons of MI; two great grandchildren, Jonah and Julia Boillat of MI and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents Charles and Reina Bruner, infant brother, David and daughter, Cheryl Granger. The family would like to thank the caring staff of McLaren Hospital and Select Care Extended Care facility for your care and kindness. Special thanks to sister-in-law Hilde Farrow for ongoing love and guidance."
Bill Bruner devoted many years to researching the Bruner family who were descendants of the German immigrant, Joseph Bruner. Joseph Bruner's family settled in Frederick, Maryland, in the early 1700s and one of Joseph's sons, Elias, built the Schifferstadt House which is now a national museum. Bill compiled his extensive research and wrote a book entitled, "The Bruner Family" which contained details about Bill's line of descendants. His research made it possible for Bruners in the twentieth century to trace their ancestors back to Schifferstadt, Germany in the seventeenth century.
