Woodrow, 67, long-time head of the department of physics at Iowa State college, died of a heart attack at his home Friday. Dr. Woodrow came to Iowa State in 1921 and had served on the Physics department staff since that time except for a brief period in 1927-28 when he studied in England under a Guggenheim Memorial foundation scholarship.

From Iowa State University Web Site: WOODROW, Jay W. (1884-1951) received two degrees from Drake University, an A.B. (1907) and an honorary LLD. (1931). He was a Rhodes scholar and received a degree from Oxford University in 1910 and a Ph.D. from Yale University in 1913. He served on several University staffs before coming to Iowa State in 1921. He was head of the physics department at Iowa State from 1930 until 1947 when he retired because of the age limitation. He was a member of many honorary societies and his publications in the field of physics were on ionization, biophysics, photo-electricity and high vacuum.
