Christopher Progress, Christopher, Illinois, Thursday, May 3, 1945, Front Page, Col. 4: Marion E. Silkwood Dies Last Thursday In Peoria Hospital. Funeral rites for Marion E. Silkwood, 62, of west Frankfort, who died last Thursday at St. Francis hospital in Peoria, were held Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock from the home of his daughter, Mrs. Frank Podbeysek, in the West Frankfort. Elder W. C. Burris, pastor of the First Christian church officiating. Silkwood died of pneumonia, following major surgery in the Peoria hospital. For the past year he had been employed at the Caterpillar plant in Peoria. He had prior to that time worked in coal mines at West Frankfort. His wife lives with her daughter, Mrs. Podbeysek. He was a member of the Christian church in Christopher. Besides his wife, he is survived by four sons, Pvt. Zolas Silkwood serving with the army in Germany; Pfc. Wm. Silkwood serving with the armed forces in India; Seaman 2c Silkwood of the Navy stationed at Sanford, Fla.; Jackie Silkwood at home; four daughters, Mrs. Podbeysek, Mrs. Dave Dossett, Mrs. George Williams and Miss Naomi Silkwood, all at West Frankfort; six grandchildren; two brothers, Tom and T. Silkwood of Christopher.
