James Robert Mansell

From Legacy.com: Jim Mansell, age 78, a longtime resident of Hinsdale, IL, died suddenly at his home on Feb. 11, 2008. He was born in Tupelo, MS on Aug. 18, 1929. He graduated from Mississippi State University in 1951 with a degree in Civil Engineering and immediately went into the U.S. Air Force as a Lieutenant. Jim married Alice Ann Appleton in Biloxi, MS on April 26, 1952 and served in Germany from 1952 until 1955. Upon returning to the U.S., he began his lifetime career with Chicago Bridge and Iron Company in Birmingham, AL and extending over several states and foreign countries. He served on the Board of Directors at Harris Bank in Hinsdale and upon his retirement from C.B.I. he was elected Chairman of the Board at Harris. He also served for 17 years as Chairman of the Board at Washington Square Retirement Home. Jim loved people and had many friends of all ages, including some very special little buddies. He was truly a Southern gentleman, yet a country boy and outdoorsman. His favorite activity was hunting and shooting skeet. He also enjoyed playing golf at Hinsdale Golf Club and watching the kids' activities there. Jim is survived by his wife, Alice; their two sons, Bob (Sallie) and Quint; five grandchildren, Quint, Amanda, Matthew, Mollie and Bonnie; his sister, Pat Rowland; and several nieces and nephews. Visitation Thursday, Feb. 14, 5 to 8 p.m. at Gibbons Elliston Funeral Home, First and Grant St., Hinsdale, IL 60521. Memorial Service Friday, Feb. 15, 11 a.m. at Union Church of Hinsdale, 137 S. Garfield, Hinsdale, IL, 60521. In lieu of flowers, memorials to Support Our Troops, 836 S. Oak St., Hinsdale, IL 60521. Interment private. 630-323-0275.
