Posted at Find-A-Grave.com: Robert H. "Bud" Katke, age 84, died peacefully February 4, 2011 at Independence Village in Rockford. He was surrounded in love by his eight children and numerous other relatives. He was born March 31, 1926 in Rockford, the son to Carl & Marion Hamilton Katke. He married Thelma A. Hosier on August 11, 1947 in Rockford. They were married 56 years. Bud proudly served in the Navy during WWII at Bremerton, Washington. He also worked 36 years at Sunstrand's Corp. in Rockford until he was medically retired. Bud was a member of the St. Mary's Catholic Church in Byron. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Thelma and sister Verna McCray. He is survived by eight children, Annette (Larry) Gillette of Rockford, Janice (Carl) Cates of Adams, WI, Nancy (Albert) Gronberg of Stillman Valley, Pamela (James) Chauncey of Tecumseh, MO., Robert C. (Karen) Katke of Dacula, GA, Tamara (Randy) Strohl of Sidney, IL, William (Faith) Katke of Yorktown, VA and Julie (Tim) Padgett of Tecumseh, MO., 32 grandchildren, numerous great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. A special heartfelt thanks goes out to the entire staff at Independence Village (his home since August of 2008), the care givers from Autumn Home Care and the comfort and care provided by Hospice Care of America during his final days. Also, special thanks to Dr. Joseph Ross and Dr. Robert Harner for giving us many years of health and happiness with our father. Christian funeral mass will be held Wednesday Feb. 9, 2011 at 11:30 AM at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 226 E. 2nd St., Byron. Visitation will be held Tuesday Feb. 8, 2011 from 5-8 PM, with prayer service at 8 pm, at the Farrell Holland Gale Funeral Home, 506 W. Merchant St. Byron. Burial will be in St. Mary's cemetery in Byron. Memorials may be directed to Hospice Care of America, 3815 North Mulford Rd. Rockford, 61114 or the American Heart Association.
