Posted at findagrave.com: Henry Earl Crow, 96, of Machesney Park departed this life Friday, December 16, 2016, in Rockford. He was born July 19, 1920, in Sue City, MO, the son of the late Elmer E. and Mildred (Stimeling) Crow. Veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army. During World War II, he belonged to the 745th Tank Battalion and landed on Omaha Beach in Normandy on D-Day. He received a Purple Heart, five Bronze Stars, Good Conduct Ribbon and EAME Theater Ribbon, for his service during the war. He built his home on the Rock River after World War II, using wood from Camp Grant in Rockford. Married Leola M. Hosier on July 1, 1948, in Oregon. Employed by Rockford Drop Forge, retiring after 39 years. Member of the 745th Tankers Breakfast, which met each month in Loves Park. He was a much loved father, grandfather, great-grandfather and uncle who always put the needs of others before himself. Henry will be missed. Survivors include his sons, Dennis Crow and Thomas (Barbara) Crow; daughter, Judith E. (Michael) Patrick; grandchildren, Melissa, Nick, Caite, David, Amanda, Michael, John and Rachel; 6 great-grandchildren; many special nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his wife; brother, Marvin E. Crow; sisters, Erma M. Dalton and Edna J. Young. Funeral service was held Thursday, December 22, in Delehanty Funeral Home, Ltd., 401 River Lane, Loves Park, IL.
