Census of Elk Township, Clayton Co., Iowa Rosa Godden is 9 years old living with her grandmother Rhoda Godden who was born Oct. 1856 in England and Benjamin Godden another grand child of Rhoda's. He was born December 1888, age 11. Rhoda is a widow, no occupation. She had 11 children with 7 currently living.

Obituary of Mrs. Fred Gifford from a Hudson Wisconsin area newspaper, December 1974: Mrs. Fred Gifford Dies Here Saturday. Mrs. Rose Mae Gifford, 84, died Saturday Dec. 14 in her sleep of an apparent heart attack at her home at 1211 Tenth St. Funeral services were Monday at 2 p.m. at the United Methodist church with the Rev. Arland Averill officiating, Jodell Feyereisen as organist accompanied Mrs. Richard Weiher, the vocal soloist. Interment was in Willow River cemetery. Grandsons were pallbearers: Dale Gifford, Jr., David Gifford, William Fred Gifford, Timothy Gifford, Donald Greenfield, Fred Greenfield, John Buhr and James Buhr. Rose Mae Godden was born June 30, 1890 in Osage, Iowa, the daughter of Albert Edward and Minnie Hosier Godden. On January 11, 1911 she was married to Fred M. Gifford at Strawberry Point, Iowa. They lived in Iowa for about three years after their marriage and then moved to St. Croix county in 1915. They farmed in the Hudson - River Falls area until 1956 when they retired and moved to Rapid City, S. D. After the death of Mr. Gifford in 1965, Mrs. Gifford returned to Hudson to make her home. She was a member of the United Methodist church and was a past noble grand of the Minnehaha chapter of the Rebekah lodge in Roberts. Surviving are four sons, Harold J. of Newhall, Calif., Dale E. of Hudson, Lowell F. of Rapid City, S. D., and Robert V. of Wausau; two daughters, Mrs. Nick Buhr (Iola) of Hudson and Mrs. Howard Greenfield, Jr. (Dorothy) of New Richmond; 19 grandchildren; 27 great grandchildren and a sister Mrs. Olive Thompson of Edgewood, Iowa. Preceding her in death were her husband, a son Wayne in 1931 and a grandson, Thomas Gifford in 1958.
