Ike has a long history in South Texas as a well- known independent in the oil business. Norman was born in Troy, Mississippi on Friday the 13th November 13, 1913. The superstitious country doctor noted the date on the official record as November 14th. Norman was born in a Mississippi dog trot style house that his grandfather a survivor of the Civil War had built with hand hewn brick. Norman played football for Donna High and later worked behind the soda counter in the Mercedes Drug store where he met his future wife Allena Belle Elder.

Norman was a fighter. He boxed on both sides of the border as "Wild Cat Aycock" earning enough money from each fight to buy a new pair of shoes "big bucks" during the depression. Later he settled his young family in Edinburg and went into the oil business with his father. He expanded the business by moving to Alice in 1955 establishing Aycock Oil Co. service stations throughout South Texas.

Norman loved golf and was part of the historic golf scene of Texas. He taught the game to anyone who wanted to play including every member of his golfing family. He and his wife Allena Belle and Golf Hall of Fame son Tommy Aycock of Corpus Christi, both of whom preceded him death, set tournament records throughout Texas.
