William Alexander Beck
(10 Apr 1836 - 14 May 1909)
During the Civil War, William Beck served for a short time in the 28th Infantry, company K. of Tennessee; was in the Battle of Shiloh. When the armies were re-organized in 1862, he organized a company of cavalrymen and joined General Dibrell's Regiment, serving in Company G. When President Jeff Davis went down through Georgia, he was in command of the company that escorted him. He surrendered in Georgia. On the 1880 U. S. Census of District 7, Clay Co., Tennessee, W. A. Beck appears with his wife Allis and children N. A., K.R., E.S., M. A., I. R., and Billy Beck. Also in the household is Bill Winfrey age 28, listed as other. W. A. is a farmer.
