John H. Kirkpatrick was born about 1843 in Arkansas and was the seventh and last child born to Lewis and Pressia (Foird) Kirkpatrick. He died in 1907 near El Paso, White County, Arkansas. He married Sally Sandford in 1871. Sally was born in Shelby County, Tennessee, in 1850. All of Lewis's sons served in the Confederate Army during the Civil War, but John was the only son to survive and return home. He served as a private in Company D, 10th Arkansas Infantry, CSA, from 1861 to 1864. He applied for and received a pension from the state of Arkansas beginning 15 August 1907 (State veterans application no. 12423).
There were two (2) children born of the marriage.
