Individual Details
Nero Kirkpatrick
(Aug 1814 - 17 Sep 1888)
Nero Kirkpatrick was born August 1814 in Jackson County, Tennessee. He married Emiline Ramsey, daughter of Randolph and Polly Ramsey, ca. 1843 in Jackson County, Tennessee. He was a farmer. He left Tennessee about 1851 and went to Illinois, probably Franklin County, where he lived until about 1855. Two surviving letters from Nero to his Father Amos, found in the court records of Jackson County, Tennessee, reveal that at least by 1855 he was in Atchison County, Missouri. He was looking for unclaimed land upon which to file, using an eighty acre land warrant which he had received from his father. In the second letter, dated 1 February 1857, he talks about going on to Kansas or Nebraska to find land, but since he is found in the 1860 census still in Atchison County, he must have abandoned those plans. By 1870 he was found in Jackson, Johnson County, Missouri, where he lived until he died ca. 1885.
There were eight (8) children born of the marriage.
On the 1860 U. S. Census of Nishnabotna Township, Atchison Co., Missouri, Nero appears with his wife Emoline and children, John, Sarah, Polly, Amos, Luisa, William, Mahaly and James.
On the 1870 U. S. Census of Jackson Township, Johnson Co., Missouri, Nero appears with his wife Emiline and children John R., Louisa, Margaret M. and William T. Nero is a farmer.
On the 1880 U. S. Census of Jackson, Johnson Co., Missouri, Nero is in the household of his son John.
