Deceased Name: Earl S. Von Burg, Jr., December 30, 1935 - August 15, 2007.
Earl Sheldon Von Burg, Jr. passed away at home on August 15, 2007 from multiple myeloma. He amazed us all by valiantly stretching a one and a half year life expectancy to twelve and a half years. He was a hero in many of our eyes. Earl was born in Evansville, Indiana to Zeneta and Earl Von Burg, Sr. where he lived until moving to Grand Junction at the age of 10. In 1955 he graduated from Central High School. After graduation, Earl worked for Mars Distributing as a delivery person which began a long career of driving for various companies some of which were 7-up, Gay Johnsons, and CM&H Tire. He also helped to construct Vega Dam, working as a "barco" tamping machine operator, and worked for Strevell Finance as a loan adjustor. During that time, he took a Dale Carnegie Course, and received several awards for salesmanship. He retired from driving in 1995 due to the onset of cancer. Earl is survived by his wife, Merredith Helmick-VonBurg, to whom he was married for 25 years, although they were together for two bonus years. These years were filled with love and so many wonderful memories of camping out, fishing, four-wheeling, and collecting "pretty rocks". Earl had previously been married to Kay Clymer with whom he had four loving daughters; Tami (Ron) Duran, Sheli Mae, Lori Von Burg and Deena Von Burg, all residing in Mesa County. He is also survived by 10 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren as well as his brother, Karl (Judy) Von Burg and their families, and several cousins. In addition he will be missed by his in-laws, and many, many friends. Earl loved and was loved by children and animals alike. His yellow lab, Rambo, was very special to him and was his constant companion. Earl was predeceased by his parents and one grandchild. Cremation has taken place and a Celebration of Life service will be held at Lighthouse Church at 3506 N. 12th at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 25th. Come casual and feel free to wear red. A potluck picnic will be held immediately following the service at Williams Park located at 1403 Mesa Avenue. Please also bring a chair or a blanket to sit on. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of Western Colorado, P.O. Box 60307, Grand Junction, CO 81506.
