Posted: Tuesday, April 12, 2011 12:00 am from the Budget newspaper, Douglas, Wyoming: A funeral service for Bernice Evelyn Hill, 82, was held April 9 at Gorman Funeral Homes - Converse Chapel in Douglas with members of her family conducting the service. Interment was in Douglas Park Cemetery. Bernice Hill died Tuesday, April 5, 2011, at Memorial Hospital of Converse County. She was born April 11, 1928, in Glendo, the daughter of Elvin Archie and Cora Jane (Lees) Cole. She was raised and educated in Douglas. She married Clarence C. Hill on Dec. 24, 1945, in Douglas. They lived in many places because of Clarence’s construction jobs. Clarence died on Jan. 31, 1973, and Bernice moved back to Douglas that year. She was married to George Hill on March 17, 1974, in Casper, and they later divorced. She and George were married a second time in 1979. She was a rancher’s wife and cook, and her favorite job was being a seamstress at a sewing factory in Utah. Bernice enjoyed sewing, embroidery work and quilting. She quilted a quilt, Golden Anniversary Double Wedding Ring Quilt, and won the Governor’s Award and a trophy. She is survived by her mother Cora J. Cole of Douglas; children Dean R. (Susan) Hill of Riverton, Linda K. (Lee) Helm of Reno, Nev., and David J. (Connie) Hill of Douglas; siblings Stanley (Linda) Cole of El Rancho, Betty Shelden, Norma (Howard) Huxtable, and Janice (Don) Steckley, all of Douglas; sister-in-law Faun Cole of Douglas; 23 grandchildren; 55 great-grandchildren; and 11 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her father Elvin on Oct. 16, 1979; husbands Clarence C. Hill and George Hill; special friend Louis G. Martinez on March 22, 2001; sons Dennis, Richard, Steven M., and Clarence E. “Sonny” Hill; and brother Lyle D. Cole on Dec. 28, 1990. Serving as pallbearers were Levi Hill, Michael Hill, Terry Hartman, Steven Daniel Hill, Chris Hill, Doc Hill, Clay Amen and Bill Strang. Serving as honorary pallbearers were her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. A memorial to Converse County Cancer Fund in care of Converse County Bank, P.O. Box 689, Douglas, WY 82633 would be appreciated by the family. The Gorman Funeral Homes - Converse Chapel of Douglas was in charge of the arrangements.
