The Peoria Journal Star, Peoria, Illinois, Monday, October 15, 2001: Monmouth---Lawrence E. Thompson, 81, of 702 N. I St. died at 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 13, 2001, at Community Medical Center. Born March 27, 1920, in Monmouth to Lawrence Roy and Rose Mary Gavin Thompson, he married Margaret Louise Davis on Oct. 21, 1942, in Shreveport, La. She died Aug. 3, 1984. He married Rosemary L. Horger on Nov. 23, 1991, in Clinton. She survives. Also surviving are two sons, Larry of Little York and Richard (and Rachel) of Monmouth; three granddaughters; three grandsons; three stepsons, Gerard (and Lynda) Horger of Sioux Falls, S.D., Timothy (and Paulette) Horger of LaSalle and James (and Susan) Horger of Winchester, Ky.; 10 step grandchildren; one brother, William (and Polly) of Monmouth; and five sisters, Helen (and Paul) Hanna of Galesburg, Margaret Ray of Berwick, Florence (and Francis) Kane of Roseville, Grace (and LeRoy) Dollinger of Metamora and Martha (and Claire) Driscoll of Monmouth. Two brothers preceded him in death. An Air Force veteran with the rank of staff sergeant, he was a member of Marion B. Fletcher American Legion Post 136. He was a lifelong farmer in Warren and Henderson counties. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Church in Monmouth and a fourth degree member of the Knights of Columbus. He also was a member of the Ramblin Roses Square Dance Club and Warren County Farm Bureau. A funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at his church. The Rev. Ron Enderlin will officiate. Visitation will be from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday at Turnbull Funeral Home, with recitation of the rosary at 6:45 p.m. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Parkinson's Foundation, Immaculate Conception School or Community Medical Center Extended Care Unit.
