Anthony Nibert Stubblefield

An apparent attempted murder-suicide early Wednesday morning left a Sherwood man dead and his wife seriously injured, at 2:26 a.m. Sherwood police received a 911 emergency call to the home of Anthony and Mollie Stubblefield at 709 Country Club Road. Anthony Stubblefield, 36, was found dead, with a single gunshot wound to the head. His body was taken to the state medical examiner's office for an autopsy.
Mollie Stubblefield, 34, was shot once in the neck. She was listed in critical condition Wednesday night at University Hospital. Sherwood Police Lt. Wayne James said that o one said anything over the phone after the call was made. When the police arrived, they were let inside by the Stubblefield's children, David Stubblefield, 14, and Stacy Eddy, 19. David Stubblefield and Eddy told Sheriff's deputies that they were asleep when they heard their mother scream.
They ran to the door of their parents' bedroom, but couldn't get the door open. Then they heard a gunshot. David ran to the phone and called the police, the officials said. He ran back to the door and they tried again to open the door. As they did, they heard a second gunshot and their mother in the bed. James said one of the shots went through the wall and struck David Stubblefield. But he said it bounced off and did not hurt the boy. James said both victims were shot with a pistol, which was recovered at the scene. He said authorities think Anthony Stubblefield shot his wife and then shot himself.
