Posted at legacy.com: Mr. William Gaither Kirkpatrick, Jr., 92, passed away on Friday, April 28, 2017 at Westminster Health and Rehab. Burial will be at 1pm on Tuesday, May 2, 2017 in Laurelwood Cemetery in Rock Hill. A memorial service will be held at 2pm at St. John's United Methodist Church, 130 Tom Hall St, Fort Mill, SC 29715 with Rev. Karen Radcliffe officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the church.
Mr. Kirkpatrick was born April 25, 1925 in Richburg, SC to the late William Gaither Kirkpatrick and Maurice Kee Kirkpatrick. He was a graduate of Fort Mill High School and attended Clemson University from 1942-1944.
His career spanned 41 years with Springs Industries with a number of different jobs. Most of this time was in the Cotton Department. When he retired in 1985, he was Assistant Director of the Cotton Division.
He was an active member of his church having served on many committees and being in the church from 1930 until now. He was the oldest living member. He was a member of the Lion's Club for 25 years and served in the Home Guard from 1944-1946. He loved being on the lake where he lived and enjoyed his boating. He was a family man.
Surviving are his wife of 69 years, Pansy "Pat" Adams Kirkpatrick; his son, William Gaither "Bill" Kirkpatrick, III; his daughter, Janice K. Patterson and her husband, Ray "Zeke"; two granddaughters, Laura K. Proctor and her husband, Shawn and Jennifer Patterson; and his great-granddaughters, Isabella Grace Proctor and Mariella Rose Proctor.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Mr. Kirkpatrick's name to St. John's United Methodist Church, PO Box 1298, Fort Mill, SC 29716-1298. Published in The Herald on Apr. 30, 2017.
