On the 1906 County Directory of Chickasaw County, Iowa Dr. E. A. Ableiter and Mrs. Laurel Ableiter resided over Ure's Hardware Store in New Hampton.
On the 1930 U. S. Census of Bradford, Chickasaw Co., Iowa, Dr. E. A. Ablaiter [sp], appears with his wife Laurel and children Gerald, Gwendolyn and Madelyn. Also in the household is his mother-in-law Harriet Millern [?] age 62 and a widow. Dr. Ablaiter was a dentist, Gerald worked as an automobile salesman and Gwendolyn works as a telephone operator.

Funeral services were held Tuesday for a man who had practiced dentistry in Chickasaw county for half a century. The pioneer dentist, Dr. Emil Ableiter, died at age 74, Saturday afternoon following a long illness. Dr. Ableiter was an enthusiastic sportsman, and a fancier of fine horseflesh. At one time he maintained a stable of five horses and entered them in many racing events. He also loved dogs, and during the years possessed several breeds. He loved to go afield during the hunting season. Mrs. Ableiter was his devoted companion in all his interests. Dr. Ableiter was born in Boscobel, Wis., April 1, 1877, the son of M. and Frieda Ableiter. He received his early school in the schools in Boscobel, after which he entered the Chicago College of Dental Surgery, April 5, 1899. Following his graduation, he opened an office in New Hampton, then a growing town where 48 new residences were being built that year. While there he married Miss Laurel Taylor, formerly of Nashua, who was a resident of New Hampton at the time of their marriage in 1903. They moved to Nashua shortly after their marriage and had lived for 41 years in the building on Main street where he had his office. He is survived by his wife; one son, Gerald, and two daughters, Mrs. Paul Mooneyham and Mrs. Hal Ransom, Jr., all of Chicago. Funeral services were held Tuesday at 4 p.m. at the Ableiter home. The Rev. F. L. Hanscom officiated. Mrs. E. E. Chenoweth was accompanist for Mrs. C. A. Hoon and Mrs. Duane Tracy, who sang. Mrs. Fred Jordan and Mrs. Alvia Flint were in charge of the flowers. Casket bearers were Clark Knight, Francis, Prouty, Niels Hvitved, Sr., Wendell Miller, Edmond A. Poppe and G. B. Luck. Burial was in Oak Hill cemetery.
