Posted at Legacy.com: Platteville---Connie C. Stephens, 74, died on Saturday, May 19, 2012, at her home. Connie was born on July 26, 1937 in Hazel Green, Wisconsin, the daughter of Glen and Frances (Murphy) Allbaugh. She was united in marriage to Stephen L. Stephens on October 20, 1954 in Dubuque, Iowa. Connie graduated from Platteville High School in 1955 where she participated in State Solo Ensemble playing oboe and piano for four years. She received her Bachelor of Science from UW-Platteville in 1958 in English & Music Education. She later received her MS in English Education from UW-Platteville in 1973. She began her teaching career at Stoughton High School teaching English and Music in 1958. From 1960 - 1964 she taught at Beaver Dam Junior High School; from 1965 - 1994 she taught at Union Grove, Union High School until her retirement. She was a member of WEAC, League of Women’s Voters, QUOTA Club, Platteville Choral and Whig United Methodist Church, where she was the organist and choral director. Connie enjoyed music, world travel, reading, spending time with family and attending the performing arts. She is survived by her husband, Stephen Stephens of Platteville; daughter, Honor Williams of McFarland, WI; two grandsons, Collin (Erin) Williams of Stoughton; Mitchell Williams of McFarland; mother, Frances Allbaugh of Platteville; brother, Stuart (Bonnie) Allbaugh of McFarland. She was preceded in death by her father, Glen Allbaugh. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, May 25, 2012 at the Whig United Methodist Church. Pastor James Pfannenstiel and Pastor Elizabeth Whitford will officiate. Burial will be at the Whig Cemetery. Friends may call from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. Thursday at the Melby-Bendorf Funeral Home & Crematory, Platteville, or from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service on Friday at the church.
