Elizabeth "Libby" Clason

Waukesha Freeman, Waukesha, Wisconsin, Thursday, September 12, 1901, Front Page, Col. 4: Mrs. George Smith. After an extended illness Mrs. Geo. W. Smith passed away at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Carl Harning in the town of Menomonee. Mrs. Smith's maiden name was Elizabeth Clasen [Clason]. She was a native of Purdy Creek, Stueben Co., New York and came to Wisconsin in 1845, setting at Clason's Prairie, Dodge Co. The deceased was the wife of George W. Smith, and was one of the pioneer women of the town of Menomonee. Her husband died about five years ago. She was a member of the Methodist church for many years and also of the order of Eastern Star. The funeral was held Monday afternoon and Rev. W. D. Cox, pastor of the M. E. church conducted the services.
