William C. Hill
(24 Apr 1844 - 20 Dec 1915)
Obituary from unknown newspaper, provided by Grant County Wisconsin Genealogical Society. William Hill, son of Mary Jane and Richard Hill, was born on a farm in Waterloo, Canda, on the twenty fourth day of April Eighteen hundred forty-four. When six years of age he came with his parents to Wisconsin. The family made their home on a farm near Montfort, known then as Wingville. Here he grew to manhood and during his lifetime, this vicinity has been home to him. When twenty seven years of age he was united in marriage with Miss Jennie Watson of Livingston vicinity, who after twelve years of happy life in the home, passed on at the early age of twenty seven years. To this union were born five children, two Ambrose and Clyde, preceded their father; three, Mrs. Alice Hannan of Livingston, John C. of Preston and Will Charles of Platteville, survive, and it has been their privilege and pleasure to make it comfortable the closing years of their father's lifetime. The eldest of a family of ten children, he is survived by three sisters, Miss Margaret Hill of Montfort, Mrs. Kate Baldwin of Glenville, Minn., and Mrs. Eliabeth Primer of Canada, and four brothers, Thomas living in the state of Oregon, Richard, Sidney and Joseph of Clear Lake, Iowa. After an illness of four days, he died at noon on December twentieth, at St. Mary's hospital in Madison, at the age of seventy years, seven months and twenty-six days. Thus briefly we have sketched the life of one of our pioneer residents who was an interested and loyal citizen in the locality in which he lived. By being a friend he made friends who feel the personal loss of an industrious and honest man. The funeral services were held here on Thursday, Rev. Crossby officiating. Interment was made in the Rock cemetery.
