Barkley, 88, of Macomb, formerly of Ipava, died at 1:40 a.m. Thursday at McDonough District Hospital in Macomb. Born Jan. 16, 1901, in Middle Grove to Charles and Grace Sprinkle Barkley, he married Irene Kirkpatrick Dec. 26, 1925, in Keokuk, Iowa.
She survives, along with two daughters, Mrs. Virginia Dexstader of Macomb and Mrs. Carolyn VanOrder of Vermont; 10 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren ; and one sister, Alberta Nye of Princeton. He was preceded in death by one son, Dr. Robert Barley, one brother and five sisters.
He was a member of the Ipava United Presbyterian Church and Order of Eastern Star and a 50-year member of the Table Grove Masonic Lodge. He had been employed as an automobile mechanic, coal miner and house painter. He played guitar and banjo with area bands for several years.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Shawgo Memorial Home in Ipava with the Revs. Virgil Kelly and Gordon E. Jones officiating. Burial will be in Ipava Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6:30 to 8 tonight at the funeral home with Eastern Star services at 8. Memorials may be made to his church.
