Monmouth---A Roseville man was killed and a New Boston resident died enroute to a hospital after a fiery, truck-car accident Friday at 3:13 p.m. on US 67 about five miles north of Monmounth.
Keith Davis, 49, Roseville, was trapped in his burning truck, authorities said. He was pronounced dead at the scene by William Hoover, Warren County coroner. Dave Perry, an ambulance operator, said Larry B. Nelson, 18, of New Boston, was also trapped in the wreckage of his car but was still alive when he was removed.
Davis was reportedly driving his pickup truck south in the northbound lane when it crashed head-on into Nelson's northbound car. Hover said the truck started to burn upon impact.
Nelson, a student at Western Illinois University, Macomb, was on his way home to spend the weekend with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Nelson of near New Boston.
Mr. Davis was born Oct. 1, 1924 in Point Pleasant, Warren County Township, and attended Roseville area schools. He also attended Bradley University, Peoria.
He married Eloise Walker, Jan. 20, 1957, at Galesburg. Mrs. Davis was a farmer and construction engineer. He was a member of the Roseville First Baptist Church, secretary-treasurer of the Stockland FS Inc., president of the Warren County Soil Conservation Corp., chairman of the Conservation Council and a board member and past trustee of the Illinois Land Construction Improvement Council. He was also past president of the Roseville Chamber of Commerce, and a member of the Swan Creek Volunteer Fire Department , the Warren County Sportsman Club and past director of Seed and FS Services.
Survivors include the widow, and five children, Terry, Charles, Harold, Roger and a daughter, Lisa, all at home; his mother, Mrs. Agnes Davis, Roseville, and a sister, Mrs. Lawrence (Margaret) Thompson, Monmouth.
Funeral will be Monday at 2 p.m. at the Hoover Memorial Chapel, Rev. James K. Brackett, pastor of the Roseville Baptist Church, will officiate. Burial will be at Point Pleasant Cemetery. Friends may meet the family Sunday from 7-8:30 p.m. at the chapel . Memorials may be directed to the Roseville Baptist Church, the family said.
