Vermont Watchman & State Journal, Montpelier, Vermont, Wednesday, August 24, 1881, Page 3, Col. 4: West Randolph---Mrs. Chittenden of California, who has been visiting her sister-in-law, Mrs. Russel, died on Sunday of Typhoid fever. On Monday her body was carried to Shelburne, Vermont for interment.

Chittenden of Red Bluff, a lady well known in Northern California--left for a visit to her old home in Vermont. She intended to be absent some three months, and was preparing for her return when she was stricken with typhoid fever, and a week later she died from its effects, expiring Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock, at her brother's home in Randolph, Vermont.
