Lord Edward Smith Stanley 13th Earl Of Derby

(21 Apr 1775 - 30 Jun 1851)

Lord Stanley, K.G., F.L.S., later 13th. Earl of Derby, Lord Lieut. and Custos Rotulorum of the County of Lancaster, Col. of the Lancashire Militia, Vice-Admiral of the coast of Lancashire, and President of the Linnean and Zoological Societies. [The Linnean Society was founded in London in 1788 to preserve the collections and manuscripts of Carolus Linnaeus (Carl von Linne) a swedish naturalist and physician.] The patron of Edward Lear, the artist and humorist, (see also Robert Vernon Atherton Hornby, Esq.). In the Events attached tot his record we have used the category "Elected to" to refer to his creation as Baron, and later Earl because at this time we are unsure of the correct term to use, even though we realize that "elected"is NOT the correct term!

The record indicates that Charlotte Margaret was "his wife and first cousin" although no further details are given of this relationship.
