Richard Heywood Thompson J. P.

"One-time of Wheatley Cottage, Thornley, Longridge, near Preston, subsequently of Nunwick Hall, Penrith, Cumberland. 4th son. Educated at Harrow and Trinity Coll., Cambridge; travelled to the Colonies in 1874; and then studied land agency on Lord Digby's estate in Ireland, on Lord Spencer's and Lord Overstone's estates in Northamptonshire, and on Lord Derby's Fylde estate. He was for some years Chairman of the Penrith Board of Guardians, was High Sheriff of Cumberland in 1904. Leaving no issue, he was succeeded in the Nunwick Hall estate by his nephew, Lt. Col. Cecil H.F. Thompson, (who died 27 March, 1975, aged 92)."
