IGI listing Batch #: 8408130, Sheet #: 38, Source Call #: 1395746 showing him as parent of John (b.1731) spells the surname "Berley".

Although this record shows him being born in Kirkham, and his father as "of Kirkham", the history by Pilling indicates that he came to Kirkham in about 1730 from Poulton, and that his father was from Ireland.
