In Beckesmet Church (Cumberland) memorial tablet "Sacred to the memory of JANE BIRLEY, late of Carleton Lodge, who died the 6th Sept. 1833, aged 47 years. Her remains were interred at St. Nicholas' Chapel, Whitehaven. She bequeathed by her will, the interest of £50 to be distributed annually on Easter Day, to such poor inhabitants of this parish as do not receive any benefit from the poor rates."Endnotes
