James Bennett is buried in the Wildwood Cemetary. He married Margaret Plummer (born February 20, 1836 - died January 13, 1900). He was a farmer and lived at Sparksville, Jackson County, Indiana. They were members of the Methodist Church and the parents of 9 children.

Obit of James Bennett Brownstown Banner, Wed. Nov. 30, 1910 :
James Bennett, an aged and well-known citizen of Carr township, died suddenly about four o'clock Tuesday evening at the home of his son-in-law, Thos. Zollman, who resides about half way between Medora and Sparksville. Deceased was about 82 years of age. He had been in his usual health, in fact had better health the past three weeks than for some time. On tuesday he ate a hearty dinner and was not complaining to the least. He was seated in a chair when he was seen to fall over and members of the family rushed to his side, but he expired in a short time before a physician could reach there. Deceased was born at Utica, Clark county. From there he moved with his parents to Washington county where he lived until 1868 when he moved to this county where he has resided since. His wifed died about ten years ago. He is survived by two brothers, John of Lawrence county, who is now in his 87th year and Field, of Washington County, who is past seventy. The Bennett family is one of the prominent families of southern Indiana, the town of Bennettsville, Clark county, is named after this family. Mr. Bennett is survived by eight children, H.T. Bennett, formerly of this place, being one of his sons. He is also survived by 27 grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Mrs. Clarence Goss of this place being one of his granddaughters. the funeral services will be held some time Thursday, the hour depending upon the arrival of some of the distant relatives.
