Edmund STACK
( - Aft 31 Jul 1879)
I have been told by a family source that Edmund's family may have originally come from "the foot of the Stack Mountains", settling at the Hill in Gortdromasillihy, Newtownsandes (renamed Moyvane in 1939), where the land was better. Accoring to this source, the Hill was the name given to the property owned by Edmund's family, mainly in order to distinguish it from the properties of at least two other Stack families in the townland of Gortdromasillihy.
It has been suggested to me that Edmund was the Edmund (known as Ned) Stack from Gortdromasillihy who was born around 1807 and who married a Mary Connor and who also lived in Gortdromasillihy around the same time. However it seems they were not the same person as, although both had a daughter named Mary, the daughter of Edmund above married a Dan Kennelly (son of Jeremiah Kennelly) in 1879 and Ned's daughter married a John Kennelly (son of Denis Kennelly) in 1866. It does appear they were closely related, however (first cousins perhaps?) as a great-great-grandson of Ned's has been in touch to say he has been DNA-matched by Ancestry with descendants of Mary Moore (née Stack) and Jim Stack who were children of Tom Stack, son of Edmund above. For now I am making an assumption that Edmund and Ned were first cousins, but proof is needed as to their exact connection.
Or could Edmund have been the Edmund Stack of Gortgromagowna, Knockanure, Co. Kerry who married Johanna Enright and had the following children (although the list does not include Tom and Mary, children of our Edmund Stack above):
Ellen (baptised 6 November 1841)
John (26 September 1842)
Johanna, twin of John (26 September 1842)
Michael (19 January 1845)
Bridget (17 March 1853)
And could this Edmund Stack who married Johanna Enright have been the Edmund Stack of Gortdromagowna, son of Patrick Stack and Ellen Dillane, who was baptised on 22 February 1813?
