Daniel BROSNAN

Brosnan researchers may be interested in the following excerpts from an obituary published in the Kerry Sentinal of 31 December 1898. The deceased was the wife of a Denis Brosnan who I think was very likely related to Daniel above. Were Denis and Daniel brothers?
With deep regret we announce the death on Wednesday, the 21st inst. of Mrs. Denis Brosnan, Islandanny, Duagh after a prolonged illness". Mrs. Brosnan "was in her 74th year" and "had given three sons to the church, two of them priests in this diocese [Kerry]. The third, Rev. John Brosnan, is a well-known clergyman in New York." The chief mourners were "Mr D Brosnan, husband; Rev Denis Brosnan, C.C., Cahersiveen; Rev P Brosnan, C.C., Castlemaine (sons); Rev P White, P.P., Annascaul (nephew); Mr James Brosnan, Kilflynn (son); Mrs J Greany, Knocknagoshel and Mrs P Galvin, Duagh (daughters); Mr J Greany and Mr P Galvin (sons-in-law)".
Four years earlier, on 9 June 1894, a son of Mrs Brosnan had died aged just 39. The Kerry Weekly Reporter tells us he died after a brief illness at his home in Islandanny, "leaving a young wife and two children to mourn his loss".
On 16 September 1903 a probable relative of Mrs Brosnan's family died in Islandanny. Rev. John Brosnan died at his parents' haome aged only 34. He had been working for some time as Professor of History and Physics at St. Patrick's College, Manly, Sydney, Australia before falling ill about two years before his death. According to the Kerry Weekly Reporter "it had been the dearest wish of the deceased to lay his bones in Irish soil, and quitting Sydney he reached his native parish about four months ago."
