Gerald (Garrett) PIERCE
(Abt 14 May 1882 - 31 Mar 1932)
Garrett was ordained a priest in 1906, having been educated at St. Michael's College, Listowel, Co. Kerry, St. Brendan's Seminary, Killarney, Co. Kerry and St. Patrick's College, Maynooth. He received a Doctorate in Theology from Maynooth in 1909. There followed postgraduate courses at the universities of Munich and Strasbourg after which he was appointed Professor of Theology at the University of St. Thomas in Saint Paul, Minnesota. He left Saint Paul in 1914 to take up the position of Professor of Dogmatic and Moral Theology at Maynooth. He was appointed Prefect of the Dunboyne Establishment in 1923, a role he carried out in addition to his Maynooth professorship.
