Individual Details
Edmund (Ned) STACK
(Abt 1806 - 22 Apr 1897)
I have been told by one source that Ned was born on 14 August 1817 (although I had originally been given a birth year for him of 1807) and that he was the fourth child of eight (seven boys and one girl) born to Edmund Stack and Mary Donovan. The eldest son was Patrick. Edmund senior was born on 12 January 1777 in Slievenavadoge, near Tralee, Co. Kerry and married Mary on 24 June 1803 in Co. Kerry. He died in 1869. However I have been unable to verify the above, apart from the death of an Edmund Stack in the Tralee registration district in 1869 aged 91, which ties in with a birth year of 1877.
Another source has told me that Ned was born on 22 July 1804 to Edmund Stack and Margaret Maloney and had sisters named Mary, who was born on 8 February 1803, and Honora, born on 1 September 1806. Edmund senior was born on 12 January 1777 (same as the Edmund senior above) to Maurice Stack and Ellen Collins - Ellen was from Tralee, Co. Kerry - and had a sister named Bridget who was born on 16 February 1779. Again, I have been unable to verify this information.
What I do know for certain is that Edmund junior, i.e. Ned, his wife, Mary, and their young family lived in Gortdromagowna, Knockanure before moving to Gortdromasillihy, Moyvane between 1841 and 1844.
It appears Ned was related to another Edmund Stack, who lived at The Hill, Gortdromasillihy, whose family I am researching as my great-grandaunt Ellie Shanahan married this Edmund's son Thomas. Descendants of both Ned and Edmund have been DNA-matched with each other indicating a relatively close family connection (perhaps they were first cousins?) but I have been unable to prove they were related. It has been suggested they were the same person but it appears this is not the case. Any help at all in connecting the two families or in verifying the information above on Ned's parents would be greatly appreciated. Please email HelensFamilyTrees@gmail.com with any information.
