Individual Details

Cynthia (Ida) Elizabeth Margaret KEATING

(18 Nov 1906 - 1995)

Ida also went by the name of Elizabeth, and her name on her Petition for Citizenship form (submitted in 1932) was given as Elizabeth Margaret Cynthia. She emigrated to the United States in 1925. In 1949 she returned to Ireland to marry Roger Harty who was from Ballybunion, Co. Kerry. Her trip home was unexpectedly lengthened owing to the start of a six-month shipping strike shortly after her arrival. She and Roger were married the day before the strike ended by her uncle the Very Right Rev. Dan Finucane. Ida returned to the States the following day and Roger travelled seven months later, arriving on the day of the funeral of Ida's brother David, a Chicago policeman killed in the line of duty.
