Edmond O'DOWER

(Abt 1756 - )

An obituary in The Limerick Chronicle of 12 March 1864 tells us that an Edmund Dower of Meenoline, near Newcastle West, Co. Limerick had died on 7 March at the age of 107. Mention is also made of his brother Maurice who had predeceased Edmund at the age of 103. Edmund was buried in Monagea Old Churchyard. Our Edmund O'Dower above was born about the same time as Edmund Dower of Meenoline and had a brother named Maurice. It is therefore possible that this Edmund and our Edmond above are the same person. If they are, then (according to the above obituary) 'Both these men [Edmund and Maurice] lived on the same farm on which their father, their grandfather and their great-grandfather lived for the last 300 years'. However, there is no mention of a wife or children.
