Leah COKER

(Abt 1848 - Prob 1930)

According to the 1911 census Leah was a charwoman.

The William Coker, born about 1869 and described as a son-in-law of Thomas's in the 1881 census, may actually have been a son of Leah's born before her marriage to Thomas; Thomas's daughters would have been too young to have been married in 1881. William was working as a "butcher and labourer" at the time of the 1881 census. There appears to be no trace of him in the 1891 and 1901 censuses but the 1911 census has a William Willams listed with the widowed Leah as a son. Interestingly, William is a butcher and born in Devonport. His age, 41, does not tie in with the age of William Coker in 1881 (four years off) but my gut feeling is that the two Williams are the same person. According to the 1911 census William Williams was married with one child.
