This information on Kathleen is from her granddaughter Gerardine Chapman (née Walsh):
"My grandmother was Catherine (Kathleen) Shanahan. Before she emigrated to America in 1928 she gave birth to my mother (Hanora) in 1927. My mother's father was Michael McMahon of Kilbaha. We don't know too much about him as they did not marry and my grandmother left her baby (my mother) to be brought up by her grandparents (Patrick and Bridget) in Dirreen. Kathleen met and married John O Connor (from Glenbeigh) in 1930 in New York. My mother was very close to all of her aunts on both sides of the Atlantic as she emigrated to New York herself in 1954 returning to marry my father (Joe Walsh of Upper Athea) in 1957. Her grandfather had died one month before she returned but her grandmother lived to see her marry in June 1957. She then died in 1958. My mother was a very popular member of the Shanahan clan so we knew all of them growing up in Dirreen (next door to the Shanahan home). We had never seen or heard of Michael until we were adults so we are keen to find out more about him. Your newspaper death notice is definitely referring to his mother Hanora. One of her daughters married O'Connor (I now know thanks to you that she lived in Athea) and his nephew Joe lived in the home in Kilbaha until his death in 2015. Micheal died in 1971. We know he never married but not sure if he died in Kilbaha. His Mother was Hanora Sullivan and his father was Patrick McMahon. The home became an O Connor home at some stage. Not sure how that came about. He was born in 1901 and had a brother Joe and four sisters".
