Johanna CRONIN

(Abt 1842 - 20 Dec 1931)

At the age of about 17, with her widowered father about to remarry, Johanna emigrated to New Zealand. Apparently, on her way to New Zealand, Johanna's ship, 'The British Queen', was delayed in Plymouth, England for a number of days for some reason. Three women found Johanna on the wharf and took her home to their room and gave her food and shelter for three days until her ship was ready to leave. Johanna finally arrived in Auckland on 30 August 1859. An older brother of hers, Timothy, was already living in New Zealand at this time and it is believed that he had sent Johanna the fare to join him.
