David KELLY

(17 May 1905 - Poss 24 Jul 1983)

It is likely that David, being the only son, inherited the family farm in Darraghmore. If so, it appears he sold it in 1953 as newspaper advertisements from that year tell us that a David Kelly was putting his Darraghmore farm up for auction. The property comprised 61 acres and 15 perches as well as a residence and outhouses.

A newspaper death notice has been located for a David Kelly of Main St., Glanworth, Co. Cork, fomerly of Darraghmore, who died on 24 July 1983. He was "deeply regretted by his sister (sisters in other death notices), nephew, niece, relatives and friends." I think it likely that this is our David above. If so, then it appears he never married. A notice thanking those who sympathised with the family following David's death was published in The Irish Examiner of 10 September 1983 by David's "sister, brother-in-law, niece and nephew", suggesting David had in fact just one surviving sister at the time of his death and that the niece and nephew mentioned in the death notice were the children of this sister. Unfortunately no names were provided so we do not know which of David's sisters this notice refers to.
