Individual Details

Adam FITZELL

(Abt 1786 - Jun 1865)

Apparently the Fitzell family of north Kerry were one of the many 'Palatine German' families who fled religious and economic hardships in Germany in the early 18th century. The family settled initially in the Rathkeale area of Co. Limerick and by the end of the 18th century, several Fitzell families had moved to the Tarbert area of north Kerry.

Neither my husband, Joe, nor I are blood-related to the Fitzells but Joe has been DNA-matched by Ancestry with a number of members of the family, the most likely connections being the marriage in 1867 of Adam's son Adam to Maria Jones, a possible niece of Joe's 3rd great-grandmother Catherine Jones (1798-1874), and the marriage in 1866 of Maria's brother John to Adam's sister Sarah.
