Individual Details
Patrick (Patsy) FINUCANE
(1839 - 27 Dec 1916)
Patsy was a successful farmer. He bought a small farm in Kilcolgan in Tarbert which he gave to his son Jim. He also bought a 240-acre farm in Tarbert known as The Pottery, of which Faranawanna (also spelled Faranawana and other variants) was a part. This farm was given to another son, Pat. The Faranawanna farm is now sold, but descendants of Patsy's still lived in Kilcolgan. The Finucanes of Pierpoint in Tarbert are also descended from Patsy (through his son Tom). I am told that the old family farm in Ardmore was sold to the Irish government around 2000 as, owing to the deep water off Ardmore, they wished to develop a port on the site. However, I do not know if this projrct went ahead.
There is a 1911 census return for the household in Kilcolgan Upper of 27-year-old James Finucane and his sister Annie aged 21. This record may relate to the household of Patsy's son Jim. No 1901 or 1911 census return was located for any Finucane family in Carhoonakineely.
A newspaper obituary for Patsy's daughter Margaret who died in 1908 mentions a cousin Patrick Finucane of Pulleen, Lixnaw, Co. Kerry who was a cousin. The Kilcolgan Finucanes were therefore related to the Pulleen Finucanes. Patrick was a son of John Finucane of Pulleen.
The Irish Calendar of Wills and Administrations tells us that Patsy left his estate (valued at £2,321) to his son Daniel Finucane who was a priest.
