I have also been told by a family source that Kate was born in 1848. Could it be that there was a Catherine born to Edward and Mary in 1841 who died as a child and Edward and Mary subsequently had a daughter in 1848 whom they named Catherine?
Kate emigrated to the United States where she lived for a time with her cousin Frances (Frank) Hudson (c.1873-1890) in Philadelphia. Kate and Frank were probably first cousins but I am not entirely sure about this.
