Maurice DOWER

(Abt 1758 - )

Could Maurice have been the Maurice Dower who died at the age of 103 in Meenoline, Co. Limerick sometime prior to 1864 when his brother Edmund died aged 107?

There was a Maurice Dower of Gortnagloss who settled in the parish of Killeedy (also spelled Kileedy), near Newcastle West, sometime in the early years of the 18th century. Could he have been a son of Maurice above (although I have not come across any evidence of a son named Maurice ). The information on the Maurice Dower of Kileedy comes from photo of a handwritten family tree on the 'Moyvane and District' page of Jer Kennelly's online album collection which tells us the following:

"Myles or Sean Cunningham settled in Killeedy [near Newcastle West], Co. Limerick and on 19th Jan. 1851 married Eliz. Dore of [what looks like] Darrery [a townland in Kileedy] whose grandfather, Maurice Dower, had come down to Killeedy from Gortnagloss about the same time as James Dower [son of Maurice above] moved to Newtownsandes. Maurice and James may have been brothers".

Note: I have located a marriage record for Elizabeth Dore of Killeedy above. However she married an Oliver Cunningham, not Myles or Sean Cunningham. The marriage, which took place in Killeedy on 28 February 1851, was witnessed by John Regan and James Mullane.
