Individual Details

Edmund (Ned) MCENERY

(27 Apr 1876 - 25 Dec 1940)

Ned's baptismal sponsors were Edmond Hudson and Johanna Hudson.

Ned was living with his brother Denis at the time of the 1911 census. It appears that Denis's farm had originally been owned by Ned but around 1910 Ned gave or sold it to Denis. Ned married in July 1911 and in 1913 acquired his own property in Tubbertureen, comprising a cottage with one acre of land. Small holdings such as this were created by Listowel Rural District Council in the early years of the 20th century in an attempt to help those with limited means to be self sufficient. In 1930 Ned's name on official valuation records was replaced by "Miss McEnery". Despite the word "Miss" it seems that this was Ned's wife, Margaret as the name on the valuation records was changed to "Margaret McEnery" a year later.
