Individual Details
John FLANNERY
( - Bef 20 Mar 1902)
John ran John Flannery & Co., a large drapery and hardware store in Ballaghadereen. The business may also have included a pub at some stage. The premises was burned down by an incendiary bomb in 1920, during the War of Independence, but were rebuilt and business contined. The shop is now the B. Mulligan & Co. department store
I have come across a record of a headstone inscription in Ballaghaderreen Old Graveyard that reads:
In memory of
Mary Flannery
(alias Gordon)
the beloved wife of
Thomas Flannery
of Ballaghaderin [sic]
She departed this life 14th May 1860
aged 49 years
She was a fond wife
and a most affectionate mother
Have mercy on her soul O Lord
erected by her sorrowing husband
Thomas and Mary may have been been connected to our John and Catherine.
