Individual Details

Cornelius (Con) MULLANE

(12 Sep 1881 - Bef 1920)

Con lived in Athea, Co. Limerick. I have been told that he predeceased his brother Dan who died in 1920.

Although we believe Con died before 1920, a newspaper death notice has been found for a Cornelius P. Mullane, a merchant of Main St., Athea, who died at his residence on 2 April 1945. He was the father of Sr. M. Cornelius, Bon Secours Home, Cork and was "deeply regretted by his sorrowing wife, family and relatives". Burial took place in Knockanure Cemetery, Co. Kerry. Was this our Cornelius? Or was our Cornelius the Cornelius Mullane of Athea, mentioned in another newspaper death notice, who died on 17 January 1959 in Newcastle West, Co. Limerick? He was "deeply regretted by his sister, nieces and nephews" and he was buried in Knockanure Cemetery. My hunch is that our Con was one of these two Cornelius Mullanes from the death notices.
