He was living at 29 Haymarket at the time of the deaths of his father on 8 April 1870 and his brother Thomas on 24 March 1885 (James's name and address are given on the the death certificates as he was the informant). He was at the same address in September 1888 when he was appointed administrator of his brother William's estate. By the time of his death in 1892 at the age of 62 James was living at 314 Fulham Road, London.
