John became a priest. The following is taken from his obituary in the Panama City News Herald:

"After graduating from Epiphany College in Newburgh, New York, he entered Our Lady of the Angels Seminary in Niagara Falls, New York. He was ordained to the sacred priesthood on June 15, 1957, for the Diocese of Camden, New Jersey. After serving over 5 years in Atlantic City, New Jersey, he entered the U.S. Air Force in 1963. Fr. John retired from active duty in 1983 after serving his country for twenty years. He was recalled to active duty the next day due to a priest shortage, and he continued to serve until 1988. He was then granted permission to remain on extended active duty. During his time on active duty he served as a Chaplain in Korea, Japan, Thailand, the Netherlands, and various other locations until his final retirement from Tyndall Air Force Base, Florida in 1991 as a Lieutenant Colonel. Father John served for more than 9 years as Administrator of St. Francis of Assisi Parish in Blountstown and St. Lawrence Mission in Wewahitchka. He served at St. Dominic from August 2000 to the present, where he devoted much of his time to prison ministry and caring for the sick through hospital, nursing home and homebound visits."
