Dominick HUNT

(8 Mar 1884 - )

Unfortunately we have no further information on Dominick.

There was a Dominick Hunt who was born in the same area and around the same time as our Dominick above, and who briefly served in the Royal Navy before emigrating to the United States in 1907. However this is not our Dominick above, although he was apparently related to the Coraughrim Hunts. Hunt researchers may be interested in this other Dominick's story: he was a son of John Hunt (c.1834-1912) and Bridget McGlynn (1853-1940) who lived in Coryolish (or Corryolus), Carrick-on-Shannon, Co. Leitrim. Passenger records from Dominick's voyage to the U.S. in 1907 tell us he was joining his brother James in Brooklyn, New York. This Dominick's World War I Draft Registration Card tells that by 1918 he was living in Grass Range, Montana and working in farming. He never married and died aged 38 on 6 Apr 1922 in Warm Springs, Montana of "exhaustion of manic depressive insanity". According to a public family tree on the Ancestry website, this Dominick had been a successful rancher and left a sizeable estate.

A Dominick Hunt, aged 17, is listed in the 1901 census as an "apprentice", presumably in the grocery and pub business owned by the family he was living with at the time (Fox) in Carrick-on-Shannon town. Was he our Dominick above or was he the Dominick who lived in Montana?

There was also a Dominck Hunt who was living in Rincurreen, Co. Leitrim in 1940s who may have been Dominick above.
