Individual Details

Jane MCDONNELL

(Abt 1853 - 11 Apr 1899)

Jane died at the age of 46, just three months after her husband, Patrick. The cause of death was "enteric fever" and exhaustion. Fifteen children were orphaned; the youngest, May, was only about five years old.

Two of Jane and Patrick's daughters entered the convent, becoming Sr. Aiden and Sr. Aloysius, both of the St. Louis Convent in Kiltimagh, Co. Mayo. However we do not know which two daughters were nuns, although we know it was not Lizzie and we know that Sr. Aloysius was their third and that Sr. Aiden was probably older as she entered the convent two years before Sr. Aloysius. Sr. Aiden died in 1965 in Kiltimagh, Sr. Aloysius having predeceased her.

Another daughter married a Mr. Delahunty and lived in Monkstown in Dublin, and another married a Dr. Lyons and lived in Killiney in Dublin. One of Jane and Patrick's sons was a dentist in Co. Sligo, and another was a medical doctor. Unfortunately we do not have any further information.
